Inspired big-sky viewing music

I was watching SBS telly out of the corner of my eye last night after a great show on digging up a Hawker Hurricane in France. Prior to the next show they had a short segment on an Italian opera/pop singer called Alessandro Safina. They played a clip of his and a song called "Luna". Well it blew me away. I could well-imagine being outside in the middle of the night, under an immense dark sky, looking up and listening to this magic piece of music. It's in Italian of course, but the voice soars powerfully as a talented tenor, and the flavour is very modern. Set on the rocky Moon, the Earth swings into frame over his shoulder - low and mesmerising as he reaches his crescendo. Simple but great clip - shivers up my spine stuff. I've never heard of him before, but I'm going to buy the album (or at least the single), stick it on my iPod and listen to it fully cranked up when I'm next staring at the Moon.

Not to everyone's taste, I'm sure..... and I didn't think it was to mine..... but have a listen anyway and imagine yourself looking up and hearing this.

Short sample clip of 20 seconds or so - (click on "Luna - Radio Edit"): http://www.alessandrosafina.info/ale...xi_singles.htm

The whole video clip is on this page: http://www.alessandrosafina.info/ale...ites/video.htm or download this target: http://www.alessandrosafina.info/ale...a_Luna_357.WMV (10Mb)

Enjoy - I'm having trouble getting the damn thing out of my head. Make sure it's LOUD and make sure you go right to the end.

Cheers
Chris

Damn you Chris,
The hairs are still standing up on my neck.
You'll be hearing my BAD rendition break the darkness at our next Star Night!!! That's your punishment
I am very partial to a good operatic singer like Alessandro Safina, Luciano Pavarotti et al.
Definately an inspiring song and great for a clear, dark sky.

Argghh... 2 days later and I STILL can't get this out of my head.

The offending part is where he launches in to the crescendo and drops to his knees... it just won't go away.

Must .... sleeeeeep........ must.............................. sleep................

The Nutcracker Suite sounds excellent when observing!

Can't say I'd listen to Alessandro Safina though. I didn't enjoy it at all, but each to their own

Operatic aria's are always featured when films or doco's are shown about Optical Astronomy.

The Blue Danube would put them to sleep. It's a waltz, 1,2,3, 1,2,3 1,2,zzz

Mike.
