Some Nebulae Observations
Here are some nebulae observations from the last couple of nights.
Used the 12” scope with a 26mm eyepiece (58x) and Lumicon UHC filter for the large emission nebulae and a 9.7mm eyepiece (155x) for the small reflection nebulae.
Brightness and size estimates are given as follows:
Brightness abbreviations: vB B mB F vF
Size abbreviations: vL L M S vS
1. Bright nebulae.
NGC 1499 F vL about half of the California nebula seen
NGC 1435 mB L nebulae on one side of the star Merope in M45.
NGC 1931 mB S near M 36
IC 405 vF L difficult
IC 410 F L easier than IC 405
IC 417 vF M
M 1 B M
IC 443 vF M not easy
NGC 2174 mB L visible in 50mm finder
NGC 2264 F M reflection neb
NGC 2261 mB S comet shape.
NGC 2237 mB vL Rosette is brightest on NW side
M 42 vB vL Orion neb.
NGC 1788 F S
NGC 1973,5,7 B L 1977 is the brightest part.
NGC 1999 mB S like a PN with a star in the middle
NGC 2023 F S
IC 434 vF M Horsehead seen, but not well.
NGC 2024 F M try and keep the star zet Ori out of the field.
M 78 mB M also saw part of Barnard’s loop nearby
NGC 2296 vF S need to keep Sirius out of the field
IC 2177 vF vL most of it seen
NGC 2359 F M easy object, shaped like a 2.
NGC 2467 B M a very easy nebulae near M 93, one of the best.
Also saw all the bright nebulae in the SMC and LMC using a UHC filter.
2. Planetary nebulae
NGC 7293 vL Helix
NGC 7009 Saturn
NGC 7662 in And
IC 5150 in Gru
NGC 246 L
NGC 1360 L and easy with bright central star
NGC 1514 needs a UHC filter to dim the bright central star.
NGC 1535
IC 418 vS
NGC 2438 in M46
NGC 2440
NGC 2392
