Light polution it not that bad

Well its 1-50am and been out for a look with the new 80mm binos.
Very impressed so far

. Had a look around steading them was the only problem but managed a view of Orion to get a feel for the viewing conditions down here. Not too bad at all. Could see a fair ammount of nebulosity more than I expected and given that I was not fully dark adjusted I recon it can only get better when on a tripod or on a eq mount ..might put the binos on the eq5 if I canI thought the light polution would be so much worse but it is not bad at all. MAybe its so late everyone has turned their lights off in Sydney but I was impressed to say the least. There is hope for some observing and photos I feel. Cant use the mount as there is no power supply might get one tomorrow and have a go at some photos thru the new 300mm lens to see how that goes.
Anyways great stuff very happy so far

yeah i get plenty of star out my way. but then i am on the outskirts of sydney

i dont have far to travel to get to fairly dark skies either

Where abouts in Sydney are you Alex, I've never observed from a city or
rural center only in the bush. Actually I've been to two SE Queenland dark
sky sites. Both although lovely spots but were not as dark as outside my
back door.

I think I would hate to move back to the city

I am in Cheltenham within a walk to the station which is great you can get into the museum easily and the harbour, I must say I like the convenience, there are no shops I have to go to Beevroft if I need stuff but thats ok my Son is up there and a few old friends.
It is clear here just went out ang gotme a 12 vlt pak if I can attach the camera I am going to see just how much polution is above me tonight.

Maybe the light pollution has improved in Sydney? When I observed from there in the early to mid 80's The light pollution was lamentable. I lived in Campbelltown and Penrith, both on the outskirts of Sydney and I never saw the Milky way. Once I was at a Cadet camp in Parramatta and the night sky was reddish and only a few 1st and 2nd magnitude stars were visable.

We're in bushfire mode here, big fire near Coraki 10kms to my east. So it
is haze city in Coombell. Probably even effecting your place west of me.
Glen is having a viewing night, unfortunately I cant attend. So it's Rugby

oh well one less place to worry about, I cant find anything here to jury rig the camera to the mount dam it anyways will keep looking finding some neat stuff around the place as an offshoot

i live in campbelltown now... maybe it has improved cause i can see the milky way on a new moon quite easy

as well as the smc and lmc on a good night.

I recon the problem turns more on the particle polution as it probably the particles reflecting the light that really makes the problem worse. But i was very happy with last night other than the back pain

.. I always thought those sissies putting binos on a tripod whats wrong with them? have they got girlie arms or something

but apart from holding them steady they really get heavy
