Ngc300

Well it's almost embarrassing posting this after Mike's brilliant effort here, but I'm pretty happy with the final image.

GSO 250 F4 with unmodded Canon 1000D
AZ-EQ6
5min subs x about 70 over 2 nights
Backyard EOS
DSS and Startools

Mate I would be pretty happy with that! This is actually my next target if I can get my bleeping rig working properly...!

Can I ask what ISO you used? Did you use the same for all 70 subs?

No need to compare yourself to Mike, at least not yet. Nice image, Kev.

Excellent work Kev.

I am wondering what caused the "white-ish square border" on left/bottom/right of the image?

Yuk, that's not pretty at all

I just looked at it on another computer - that's not visible at all on the computer it was processed on .

I'll have to have another go at it

Ok, I've changed a DSS setting and learnt a bit more about StarTools, so here is version 2.

Don't go easy on me, if you can give advice please do.

It has nothing to do with your posted image, but it is usual for anyone
posting images who welcome comment and/or criticism, to detail
what equipment was used to produce the image, and settings used, such
as ISO, and number and duration of subs, any darks, flats etc:

That's an excellent shot Kev. Big fat Newts are an ideal match for DSLR's. I'm shooting this one myself tonight (also with a DSLR) for the very first time. From another Kev.

Sorry I am not a Kev...but this looks ok to me ngc 300 is a notoriously bland galaxy. Looks to me like it needs some more red and a little magenta ?

Nice job Kev

That second run at processing has turned out a really good result Kev. Very pleasing to look at.

Thanks Colin, Dunk, & Trevor.

Thanks Mike for the advice. More red ... ok, I'll try and squeeze a bit more out of it.
