Latest AusPost spam/scam

This one is doing the rounds - I got my first one just now. Ladies at AusPOst locally been telling every client that walks in too to obviously ignore it.

What I found strange is I got one of these emails when I was getting stuff send by Australia Post? I got the email and delivery the same day. I checked the link and they want you to down load a javascript file. I also got one from AGL Gas as well, its scary as some older people will fall for them as they look real.

I wonder, is it Aust Post leaking the information, or the companies we are buying from?

I got the AGL one too, a while back.
Very real looking.
Although I was a little suspicious.
So I went on line to check.
One of their on line chat help opens up.
I ask him about it. Said I was suspicious as I was not a customer, but was interested in the offer.
He says not to worry, its probably from one of their sales agents.
So I clicked on the offer. [my bad]
AND it was a scam.
AGL even had a warning buried in their own website.
Shame they didn't tell their own staff about it.
Luckily I clicked on the offer using an iMac, and the trick page wouldn't open.

Pretty easy to avoid those scams, just don't click on anything from an email body. Copy paste links in a browser or attachments on your desktop and scan them. Big organisations will never send you things to download or click from an email to install, they always will direct you to their site first. Unfortunately it's when you stop following this routine and become complacent that you get caught. There's a lot of ducks out there waiting to get done and the scammers know it. Endless supply.

I have had two from Telstra (bogus) this week alone.
They seem to be getting more aggressive.
To me it stands out like a sore thumb that it is a scam but for my Father in law with poor eyes etc it would be easy to fool. Luckily he still pays by cheque at the post office!!

I received an AGL Energy electricity bill (email)for $427 yesterday. I'm with Origin Energy and my bill which was due today was for $441.
Not the exact amount I know, but close enough that someone with a dodgy memory would think, "oh, that's about right" and go click on that link.
Am I seeing an illusory correlation here? Probably. But it does make one a bit sus.
