NGC6164/6165 HaOiiiRGB

Inspired by a few of the recent images including this little gem in the FOV I thought I'd have a go at reprocessing my 2014 data. I think it's quite a bit more subtle than my previous attempt.

NGC6164/6165 is a bipolar emission nebula (not a planetary) in Norma. The outer Oiii shell is very faint and it takes a lot of data to capture it well at long focal length.

Scope: Ceravolo C300 @ f/9 = 2760mm FL, Atlas focuser
Mount: AP900
Camera: U16M
Filters: Astrodon E series Gen 2 LRGB, 3nm HA, OIII, SII
Guiding: Lodestar / MMOAG
Image scale: 0.67 arcsec/pixel
Exposures: 16x1200s + 38x1800s Ha, 37x1200s + 73x1800s OIII, 7x180s R, 7x180s G, 7x180s B
(1460m Ha, 2930m OIII, 21+21+21 RGB = 74.2 hours)

Full res available on Astrobin: http://www.astrobin.com/254123/

Cheers,
Rick.

Rick very impressed, the bubble against the background wall of Ha just looks out of this world. Definitely something out of Startrek.

Just stunning. Excellent internal detail in the centre part of the nebula. Great depth in the outer shock ring and in the background. Lovely image.

That's a ripper image Rick and worth the repro.

I think you have shown the Ha and O3 background better than the earlier collaboration image.

This is on my wishlist for imaging with the CDK17 next time whilst its in such a good imaging position at the moment. Long focal length really suits it and your stars are so small as well.

Greg.

Incredible. The front towards the top of the image is reminiscent of bubble wrap. Very smooth.

Thanks very much, Greg. I've squeezed a lot of images out of this data, but at 74 hours that seems fair

Ta, Al. The luminance was a blend of straight Ha and starless Oiii.
