M16 Astro mod test shot

Did an astro mod on my 550D and decided to test it last night. My new imaging rig isn't quite ready so I just busted out some short subs with my dob. Happy I didn't destroy my camera lol... Only a couple of things left and I'll be doing long exposures, cant wait...

Only did very basic processing as the image isn't really worth spending large amounts of time on with such bad coma.

Canon 550d Astro modded
10" synscan dob
iso3200
80 x 10s subs
30 x darks
30 x bias

Tim, that's a great result. Goes to prove that if you do enough subs you can minimise noise even at 3200iso. Nice processing too. Your mod has worked out well, sensitivity has increased, obtaining such detail with 10sec subs is amazing.

Agreed, an excellent image! The 10" dob will enable good light capture, I will be keen to see your progress as you prepare for longer exposures. I have a 10"Newt and am very slowly honing my tracking skills (unguided at this stage).
Good luck Tim, you will be pleased with the camera mod I'm sure.

Nice work Tim. Impressive results for 10sec, I wouldn't have expected so much detail.

For 10s exposures it really has turned out pretty good I tried doing something similar a few years ago when I still had a LX200 10" SCT, my D700 had huge amounts of noise and didn't show anything as good as yours
