That's why you have a zip in the side. The monsters obligingly wait for you to get ready before attacking. They came up with some amazing stuff that they thought would be in use by 2000.
Amazingly some of it happened though not quite as drawn at the time.

The pistol is for an emergency getaway.
If her crew left without her, she would fire the pistol into the ground and the recoil will lift her off the moon and she can catch up to her mates. ( And use the remaining bullets for revenge).
