Not much selling

I have noticed on looking through the for sale categories in the IIS
classifieds, that pretty much all of a sudden, nothing much is selling,
often even when the price is reduced, and also often, not even any queries.
Things must be getting tough.

I didn't think the HEQ5 would have lasted long, they're usually picked up pretty quickly.

I'm still buying my quota, some of the others here need to start pulling their weight!

If it wasn't for Mercedes Benz wanting all my spare cash for a torque converter I would gladly buy more stuff.

There's a lot of very tempting gear being listed recently but as I have too much already and not enough space or liquidity I have to resist the temptations offered. It hurts not to be able to jump in and splash the cash.

I am waiting for a particular item to come up (1.25" manual filter wheel with LRGB filters), although I am saving for something else atm (Monlite stepper or DC drive), so that sort of has a priority, unless the other item comes up and is cheap enough for me..

It's the election - seriously!

As soon as one is announced, people stop spending.

Shopping, white goods, real estate - everything is affected.

I agree the only reason the guy sold me my new place was worry about election I am sure.
Now that I have purchased the prices will drop. I think thats the way it works.

Buy now after the election things go back to normal and come spring everyone is happy and start spending.... Unless its different this time which I doubt.

Anyways if you want something get it life is too short to put things off.

I understand that freight costs put a barrier in the way of my selling heavy
gear, as the market in W.A. is tiny, but people don't even seem to be asking
sellers whether they will separate items. Maybe I'll have try and sell the
smaller items, and try the rig again later.

I have previously bought a lot of stuff form this forum. I am experiencing a bit of financial uncertainty because of the economy and election, but I am still looking for stuff to buy, its simply a matter of the right items not being for sale. There are quite a few good deals on at the moment, which I should probably jump on, but I'm saving for a few specific items.

+1 for the election. Businesses stop spending in my area of work too... then I have to tighten the belt. And I'm a Scot, so...

Having said that, Raymo if you do consider splitting I'd be interested in that SW electric focuser...

Cheers, Iain

At the risk of stating the very very obvious....... I have bought a lot of gear here, and sold much of it, while 'beta testing' to find an optical 'life partner' or two. What I have noticed is that Astronomy equipment trade seems to be seasonal, there are definite times when the classifieds are flooded with gear.

Late autumn is one of those times......

Unfortunately I have now found the two scopes that work well for me so will no longer be buying scopes, but fear not, Lewis and Col will help out.....

I am still happy to help out with eyepiece trading but they will need to have Tak in green on them....

Agree with Matt, hibernation season for us not so hardy folk (crappy weather doesn't help).

I'd like to put in an order for an fc100df and a set of CPC HD forks please

If someone's looking for your item it'll sell for a decent price, but it may well be a quiet time of year given the cooler weather. I don't mind the cool weather because I hate mosquitos.

australia is a small market, with the recent strength in $AUD couple yrs ago people are prob pretty well equipped, only sales going on are bargains or quality items. its not like the US where people are entering / exiting all the time

The biggest thing stopping me from jumping on some of the bargains (had a DigiFire10 arrive this morning from Allan BTW) is that I have a mount from Cris on the way and an order with Claude. Quite a considerably bill between the two of them

I mean, I'd love an FLI 16803 with a full set of Astrodon LRGB and 3nm narrowband. Would love two full sets of Pentax XFs and a good pair of Binoviewers for my Tak (thanks Matt!!).

In reality, buying a house in 14 months so that takes priority after my mount

I'm in the same boat with my RS6, 5g's for a steering rack and tie rods replacement. That's taken up this summers savings for an ATIK ONE 9.0 and AZEQ6GT

Cash poor

There are only two things stopping me from taking advantage of the truly amazing deals... cash to spend and SW(should)BO (playing with fire but what the heck!).

Malcolm's Orion mount, Raymo's whole rig, 120ED, 12" RC... I keep a towel draped over my keyboard to keep from drooling all over it.

I may have to go to therapy soon...
