Problem sending command to program

Hi all,
I used to be able to open fits images in CCD Soft by simply clicking on the image, that would then open CCD Soft and display the image.
Not sure what has changed or how.
Now when I click a fits image CCD Soft Opens with no image and the message below is displayed.
Same occurs if I try to open with Maxim DL.
I can still manually open the image from within CCD Soft or Maxim DL
I have tried defaulting to CCD & Maxim to open the fits but same issue.
I'm using Windows 10
Any ideas?
Thanks indeed.

Interestingly the problem only occurs when trying open Fits files. Jpegs open into CCD Soft with no issue. Anyone have any clues? I have checked associations and all Fits are listed as opening with CCD Soft (or Maxim if I choose). Even checked that picture viewer in Win10 has not suddenly taken over and nope all Fits are defaulted to CCD Soft. Reinstalled CCD Soft and same issue so it looks like a Win 10 issue. I'm stumped.

I haven't had any problems with FITS files and MaximDL with Windows 10 myself. I'm stumped

Thanks Colin. So if you click on the fits image that is defaulted to MaximDL, the programme opens and displays the image is that right? I'm pretty sure mine was doing this and now when I click on he image the error message comes up, MaximDL starts but no image.

Yep, it starts MaximDL and then opens the image.

If you take an image using Maxim, save it, see if you can again open it. Can just be a bias frame or something, doesn't matter. Hell it can probably just be via the ASCOM simulator

I am wondering whether it is a problem with your system dealing with FITS files or the way that your software is saving them to begin with.

I've had this issue with Microsoft Excel. I'm not sure exactly why. I don't think it is program dependent. All I can think of his a timeout when you're accessing a file the first time through a mapped drive. Let's say you have two drives in your PC and you mapped an "astro" directory in drive "D:" as letter "S", boot your machine then start to access the file via "S" rather than "D:\astro" you can get a timeout and error message. It seems also linked to the indexing of the files by the OS if the drive contains a lot of files. btw I'm still on Win7. Same problem.

I don't know if this is just co-incidence or not.

I have been using W10 + Office 2007 for over a year and recently I have been receiving the same message on Word & Excel.

It appears to be a W10 issue, am I right or wrong?

Thanks Colin, up until the other day I was able to open Fits in MaximDL and CCD soft from the location the Fits images are in (Desktop folder). The other day while I was doing something else and opening an image a window popped up that I thought was asking do you want to set this as default and clicked yes. Looking back on that I have probably changed the way the system handles Fits files. I can click on a jpeg or any other format that CCD Soft and MaximDL handle and they immediately open. So it would seem to add weight I have changed something re fits images only.
It's not a huge problem because I can still open CCD Soft or MaximDL and then go to file and open the image, just frustrating what I have changed.

Thanks Marc, When I did a Google of the error message much came up about Excel and Office and there were several remedies offered but none I could use with CCD Soft or MaximDL.

Thanks John, As above there is much is noted on Google about the error message. I think there were fixes for Win7&8 as well.

Win 10 has this nutty way of defaulting images to its own photos app. I use Irfanview for my jpegs etc and even after setting defaults in there (not for fits) it would still go to the photos app. I found much on Google and how you can change this in Default Settings and was hoping this my give me a clue, but there was no Fits to change in there.
