CARL ZEISS JENA AS80 f1200 Achromatic Refractor

FOR SALE - CARL ZEISS JENA AS80 f1200 Achromatic Refractor

I have two (2) of these units, so one is clearly overkill and not required. This is the famous AS Series from Carl Zeiss made in their famous Jena plant in East Berlin. It uses the extraordinary Jena glass, which has never been replicated by anyone globally before or since

Plus although it is 80mm its performance is exceptional, but any standards ! The sharpness and detail are the legendary performance you appreciate only from a supplier such as Carl Zeiss, this makes most under 100mm telescopes look like toys, even your expensive Japanese ones ! This is Carl Zeiss Jena, and if this means nothing to you then you should not be interested in reading further

This is an absolute gem of a telescope, and suits someone wanting something that is more than special, that is unique - as Carl Zeiss do not make telescopes any more (closed telescope production in 1995)

It is an 80mm aperture and a 1200mm focal length, and operates with a super smooth helical 2 inch focuser to direct connect to your 2 inch premier star diagonal. unit is mounted on a long series Vixen type dovetail bar that is direct connected to the OTA

Now - I would not normally be that excited about a Helical focuser, but this unit is different, this is not American or Japanese, this is Carl Zeiss, and this focuser is gorgeous

I paid EUR 2,600 for this unit four years ago, and am prepared to sacrifice it to merely get some space back in my telescope collection

Price $ 2,000

Pick up from Bentleigh or shipment nationally at cost

Thanks for looking

Note: Price excludes the Officina Stellare 60mm finderscope & bracket as shown - these are available as an option (or other) if you wish, please PM for details
