Narrow band mosaic of the Great Orion Nebula

I have the unconventional view that the Great Orion Nebula is one of the toughest objects in the night sky to image well, partly because of the enormous range of intensities that need to be captured and represented in a pleasing way. I get a little better every time I revisit this object …

Unfortunately, I haven’t had time to start using the multitude of techniques Rick Stevenson taught some of us at the fabulous NACAA workshop during Easter. I have had to work on many other things the past month.

Wow, that's a really striking image. Love the colours and the sharp detail. One minor nitpick is the stars seem oversharpened and take my attention a little.

Greg.

It certainly is a tough object, Murray, and this is a great rendition!

Cheers,
Rick.

Strongmanmike: I love your work, it is brilliant, and your colours are excellent! One day I would love to own an Orion Optics f/3.8 reflector and use it for LRGB imaging. I'm envious.

This is a beautifully presented image Murray. Lovely depth, detail and colour palette. Well done.
I think your right about it's difficulty, and so many times you see the central part totally over exposed. It seems to takes some skill in processing to deliver a well exposed and detailed shot. As you have.

Very nice, I like it a lot.

I have narrow band data of Orion that I've never displayed, I might have to get it out, I'm inspired!

Hi Murray, nice work on all that georgeous detail.
There's some blue haloes around some of the the stars though.
To me they're a bit distracting and maybe would be better replaced with RGB stars.
As to colour palatte, as Paul Haese once said it's Dealer's choice in NB
You've definatly inspired me to have a crack at this in NB next season, well done.

Thanks for all of your positive feedback, including constructive criticisms. I think that we all feed off of each other for good ideas. If some of you go on to post better renditions of this complex object in months to come, then I have made a positive contribution to the progress of this art form.
