Celestron SkyScout

I came across my Celestron SkyScout the other day and haven't used for a couple of years. I put some new batteries in it and tried it out but the satellite sync wouldn't complete so I decided to put in my time and location manually. Only problem was that the date in the system was only configured until May 2015. I went to the Celestron site to update the firmware but the SkyScout has been discontinued and is no longer supported! Clues anyone? I have this pristine SkyScout and it looks like I'll have to bin it, bit of a waste of money me thinks?

Not sure if this helps: http://www.cloudynights.com/topic/47...rons-skyscout/

Or this: https://www.vomitron.com/2010/12/29/...mware-updates/

I hate companies doing this sort of thing. It annoys me that stuff like this isn't easily open to customer modification.
