lots of craters

I'm suffering posting withdrawal symptoms, so had to post something.

The moon certainly has taken a serious pounding over the eons.

If you use BYEOS you could do a video with your Canon. Relatively cheap way of taking some higher "resolution" Luna shots

I have some videos taken with this camera, but can't find any file
converter that will convert the MOV files to AVI files with a codec
that stacking software such as Registax will recognise. I really should dig out my webcam and use that.

The only Windows compatible software I can think of would be VLC. It's free and there isn't much it cannot play or convert.

If you can do video with your DSLR you'll be happier with the results, MUCH larger FOV and all

The trouble is that no matter what AVI I put into Registax, it always says
"codec error". I, of course, have no idea what codec it requires.
I'll have a look at VLC.

I had similar issues with the AVIs that my Point Grey Camera produced when using Firecapture. Found a simple workaround was to use PIPP (see https://sites.google.com/site/astropipp/ ) to run them through and you can set it to save all the frames as BMP files. then simply import those into Registax.

Little more time consuming but it works.

I know what you mean. I think I'm addicted to astronomy and this site! haha. I do enjoy learning though, so that's not a bad thing. Nice moon pic btw!

RE: video, I've just started using "EOS Camera Movie Record". It captures directly to the laptop, with live-screen zoom feature and saves as an AVI. Haven't tried it with Registax yet though... . Still got a bunch of images waiting in the to-do list I need to get to first.

Cheers, Evan

Lots of craters indeed. Probably my favourite area. I even got lots of clear craters with my small scope (using the Neximage 5).
