3d printing.

Walked into my library today and found a 3d printer on the counter.
Apparently they will print out your file for 5 dollars a gram.
So for small parts that may be viable.
At least I'll know how much to charge when I start up. ....

They're charging a LOT more than the actual cost of consumables - you can buy filament rolls for around $40 - $50 / kg (that's 4 to 5 CENTS per gram), but I assume the surplus covers cost of maintenance etc.

For anyone in the Brisbane area - "The Edge" at State Library of Queensland (South Bank Cultural Precinct) has a bunch of 3D printers that you can book on-line and access for free after doing their induction program. They only charge $0.15 per gram on your printed objects. (They also have a laser cutter for when you want to make flat objects cut from acrylic sheet or similar.)

You can always get a free, online quote from a nearby 3d Hub: https://www.3dhubs.com/

Some charge as low as $0.40 per cubic cm.
