The Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC)

Hi All,

This is my latest image, after quite a few months of getting deep subs on clear dark nights. Probably the hardest thing I've ever tried to process, the background stuff is literally only a few ADU above the noise floor. I really didn't know where to start but I'm happy with where it has ended up. The main disc bulge of the LMC is pretty cool but really annoying, I pulled what I could out of it; almost deep enough to start revealing dust lanes. There are nebulas EVERYWHERE!

Image details:
Captured January - April 2016.
FSQ106EDXIII, FLI PL16803
SII:540, OIII:750, Ha:1080, 39.5 hours total.

That's very cool Chris.

Each of the small nebula across the field are a study in themselves.
Can you provide details of the colour palette used?

Thank you. There are lots of targets to poke at in the field
Colour palette is somewhat of an experiment, I have tried to map narrowband close to visual, or at least around where they tend to sit on the spectrum. That being said, I'm colour blind so it could look like anything. I tend to stick to numbers. I guess it would be something like Ha&SII:Hb:OIII, with Hb being synthetic.

Interesting colour palette but I do like it. Really nice seeing a reasonably high resolution wide field of the area. So many supernova bubbles around the place! Has been a very active region in the last few million years.

Great work, Chris. Amazing area, wonderfully captured. Really makes me want to dig into this area myself, but alas it's a bit low in the sky now.

That's a VERY nice image
Great use of colour (especially considering you're colourblind, Wow!) and dynamic composition and detail.
You gotta be happy with that one

Wow. No wonder you happy with it.
The dramatic palette choice is very satisfying to look at. As is the detail.
The HiRes version is a must see.
Well done.

Trevor
