Just a little more out of NGC 1097

Since I acquired and then processed this image before sun up in a somewhat sleepless stupor on Friday morning, I have managed to squeeze just a little more out of my NGC 1097 image . The HII regions are a little more evident and it is slightly sharper.

The pleasing thing is that I could actually get this from my new wonderfully light poluted skies near Central Canberra However an hour or so more of data wouldn't have gone astray of course.

The detail in the spiral arms, and dust "markings" in the central bar are superb Mike. Goes to show what can be acheived under "polluted skies"

I stayed with friends in Watson in NE Canberra about 2 weeks ago, and without a scope did some visual observing. I was very impressed at how dark the sky was, just 5- 10 minutes drive from the CBD. Certainly much darker than Point Clare on the central coast!!

At the risk of departing from the thread topic, my wife and I were very impressed with Canberra, I have been reading the property guide with interest...just in case Nina gets an academic posting at ANU!!!

Very nice Mike. I'm pleased for you, that you are still able to produce images of this depth and quality in spite of moving lock, stock and barrel to the light polluted skies of Canberra. You must be one relieved dude!

Cheers

Dennis
