Ngc 1433

This is the first real image i've managed to squeeze out of my GSO RC14.
Due to a multitude of problems with the scope and the gear i'm trying to work with it.

NGC 1433 is a really cool Seyfert Galaxy with an intense ionizing maelstrom at its centre though not visible with my washed out luminescence data.

Included Hubbles version of the central nuclei.

I have some 20min RGB subs that i have been trying to compile but it looks terrible. Bad vignetting wild gradients and colour noise is what i end up with to embarrassing to share and to late in the year to get more data.

about 7 hours of luminescence data
Mag 9.9
size is 6.1" x 5.7"
at a ridiculous 0.39"/Pixel

Very sharp Michael. You mention bad vignetting. Do you take flats? They make a huge difference.

Looks really good Mike lovely and crisp...and I can't believe how much it looks like NGC 1512 in Horologium, I thought it was at first

This is a lovely clear and detailed image Michael, and it's very pleasant to look at.

Thanks for the comments guys i was pleasantly surprised by how crisp the galaxy turned out after processing.

Geoff
Iforgot to mention i did take darks/flats and bias worked well for my luminescence data but i still get some bad colour noise and gradients with my RGB.
I think now it might be more to do with the way im stacking and per-processing with CCD stack auto stretching DDP.
I will try my best later to clean it up and produce a colour image.

Mike
Your NGC 1512 does look a little similar closeup though that top arm in your image is massive! spiraling what looks like a huge distance from the core.
BTY I really would like to be able to get the level of vibrance from my galaxy attempts as yours well balanced very nice.

Regarding dodgy flats - we were plagued by inadequate flats for years. Tried sky flats, t-shirt flats, light-box flats, all to no avail. The flats actually made the image worse.

So we forked out for a giant electroluminescent panel (expensive for a 20"), and never looked back.

Great luminance, Michael, and a lovely little galaxy.

Crappy looking RGB data is not unusual for a dim target, at least in my experience Hit it with your favourite gradient removal tool and a heavy denoise and it should be usable. Some people go as far as deliberately blurring the RGB data.

Cheers,
Rick.

That is an impressive result Michael with that image scale. Almost double what is considered "safe" but the result looks sharp and has plenty of detail.
