Strange lights in the clouds last night

I was out last night in the backyard as the sky was completely clear initially, so I was trying to do some imaging. However, as is the way with Brisbane this time of year, the clouds started appearing in the east. They quickly moved across the sky towards the west and the Moon.

Since it was patchy, I kept going with my captures, but I was watching the clouds more closely.

I then noticed a flash of light. At first I thought it was just my vision, then I managed to see a few more.

I was facing roughly north, and the flashes were in the clouds, from just west of north to probably a bit past the north west. There were none to the east, or to the west. I'm not sure to the south, since at first it didn't seem to have as much cloud and as I wasn't really interested in that direction, I didn't actively look.

I suspect I was seeing cloud lightning (heard nothing), but with it being confined to a specific portion of the sky, I did wonder if I might be seeing something with the moonlight momentarily reflecting off the clouds? This was happening around 9 to 10 pm Brisbane time, so the moon was starting to get towards the western horizon.

Any ideas?

It must have been a dog fight between the U.S government and aliens. True, they're out there and it is all a big cover up!!!

Or it could be that the heat made me hallucinate. Good theories so far.

Were you wearing an AFDB? If so, it was a foil induced build up of heat in your brain. If not, it was just the usual aliens beaming signals directly into your brain. QED...

Haha, I had to look up AFDB. http://zapatopi.net/afdb/usage.html

So, consensus seems to be aliens then. Wish their message had been a bit clearer - maybe they were telling me that the conditions were only going to get worse and to give up for the night?

AFDB - I need to get one of those beanies!

Love this one -"The eyes are an extension of the brain. Consider covering them with foil when not in use..."
