PixInSight Guidance

Hi all,
Quick question in regards PixInSight. Is there a guide on how to use this program? I am only just wanting to stack the light frames as I can't stack using DSS as I have a mac, and I am not putting windows on this machine, and CS6 looks terrible when I align and stack. Is there a guru on here that has a quick guide to help me out at all?

You will need to invest a bit of time to get the basics down. PI is very powerful. Some folks like it and others don't. If you find it a struggle, CCDStack is a nice package that's pretty user friendly (IMHO).

I'm happy to answer a few questions and I do occasional PI workshops (one coming up in Sydney at the NACAA meeting in Easter and I'll probably do another one in Brisbane later in the year.) Looks like you're in Brisbane too so drop me a PM if you need a hand.

Cheers guys :-) I will check out the links tomorrow after work and see if I can't get somewhere with it. I have heard PI is a great program, but time consuming to get the hang of it. Time will tell I guess

Try googling Jim Morse Astronomy , he does a great crib sheet and if you email him he will send it to you, fantastic aid

In addition to what has already been mentioned, The Astro Imaging Channel has some video tutorials and presentations you can download for PixInsight and other topics. Check out their YouTube channel or Google+ as well. The website is only new.

I am new to using PI as well and found the tutorials on the light vortex website Rick mentioned in his post to be invaluable. There is a range of tutorials and each on steps you through the process with clear step by step explanations. they are regularly updated as more are added as well.

Get Jim Morse's crib sheets, they are a very good place to start. Been use PI for about 9 months now and just am starting to get the hang of it!! It is a great programme and seems to have a lot of processes that give you great flexibility in your processing.
