Somehow or other I must have stuffed this up when I last re-assembled the G11. Both setting circles whilst they can move are meant to have a degree of resistance to being moved. I notice both of mine are really very loose to the point of being able to "spin" them with my fingers. What I need is a diagram of the correct installation when re installing them after mount maintenance. I have obviously missed something. The mount still works fine.
Any help appreciated.
I think this is normal. Mine are the same. I only image so I've never used them but I think you just set them to the appropriate spot for the time/day and leave them. They have enough friction to rotate with the mount.
Hi Charles, mine were far too loose, would not even rotate with the mount. Found from a couple of people on Cloudy Nights that there is supposed to be a smidge of grease at the base of circle rings. I disassembled down to removing the circles, cleaned and replaced ensuring I put a small smear of super lube, the same grease that I have on the worms. Now has a reasonable amount of friction, which is what I remember from new. Problem solved. Apparently some versions of the G11 have Teflon screws on the Dec rings to provide friction, obviously mine does not, and probably likewise with yours.
Hi Peter, glad you've got it sorted. You're right, no screws on mine but, as I said, I never use them. I bought mine in 2008 or 9 and it might have been a couple of years before I even noticed I had them!
Yep it is now operating as it should, that is the problem with being too smart cleaning all the old grease off when servicing. I just thought that the grease at the base of the rings had just seeped there from the worm gear. Sure as hell did not realise it was supposed to be there.
