Puppis A supernova remnant in bicolour

Hi All,

Here's the Puppis A supernova remnant in Ha/OIII. I used the Ha data for the red channel, and the OIII data for the green and blue, I then combined all the data to make a master luminance frame and combined it all in photoshop.

There is some short RGB data for the stars as well.

A subject with a large dynamic range, some stuff reasonably bright but much more which is quite dim. The blue gradient appear to be real as it is on all the subs. The red nebulosity in the background is one of the Gum nebulae.

A really fascinating target, I hope you like my rendition.

I spent some time comparing it with Don Goldman's image. Yours seems to capture slightly different structures. Both images look completely convincing and real, I'm sure it's not artifact. Perhaps the thing changes. Perhaps it's just subtle differences in filters.

That is a really interesting image Stuart, a lot going on there. Random hydrogen pockets, swirls of oxygen all around a nice remnant.

C'mon Peter, it's not a selfie!! I know I'm a bit of a mess from time to time, but I've never been compared to the remnants of an explosion!

Hi Mike,

I think Don took a lot longer time to obtain his OIII data, it's much stronger than mine, perhaps I should add a few more nights...

I have made an animated gif comparison (which I can't get below 200 kb, so have uploaded the individual images), there's a "new" OIII area in my shot which I'll have to check to ensure it's not an artefact. If not, I'll check other images, Don may have had to omit something because of an image issue.
