Heart of the Lagoon

This is very much a work in progress (currently better than my first attempt: http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...d.php?t=112211), so here is ~40 mins of M8 taken with an unmodded Canon 1100D at ISO3200 attached prime focus to the 8" LX90 ACF in Alt/Az mode, 3 second subs. Processed in PixInsight (and still learning ).

Hi Stacy,

That's a great effort using a compilation of 3sec subs! . Well done.

Reminds me of my recent attempt on the Lagoon. I've just finished processing mine. I wasn't quite able to get the right colour palette, however it's looks like an actual lake/lagoon in my image I guess! .

I'm using an unmodded Canon 600D on an 8 inch LX200, so very similar equipment. I'm using a wedge though, which helps a bit. I'm curious, why are you using 3sec sub lengths, as opposed to say, 30sec? The reason I ask is because you'll no doubt get field rotation, however you could probably crop it out. When I first attempted imaging using Alt-Az mode, without the wedge & autoguider, I was able to effectively crop most of my field rotation out due to the actual size of the image, particularly when using a focal reducer

Cheers, Evan

Hi Chris,

I did plan to put on my Lepus 0.62x focal reducer for longer subs, but forgot With the smaller FOV I thought I'd get away with minimal trailing with shorter subs.

The downside is processing 700+ images! Due to an OS issue, PixInsight on OSX can't process more than ~250 at a time, so looks like I'll have to get it running on Linux which has no such restrictions.

Looking forward to seeing your M8.
