EQ8 Dec adjustment

Just wondering if anyone here has tried adjusting the EQ8 Dec backlash? It looks relatively easy to do on the newer version of the mount as they have provided access to the adjustment grub screws without needing to remove a lot of covers. I haven't measured the backlash on mine yet but suspect it could do with a slight tweak.

I found the Orion procedure on the EQ8 yahoo group website.

yep, that procedure does the job. Don't try to overtighten - the worm mechanism is very strongly mounted and there is no give anywhere - if the worm/gear mesh is too tight it stalls, with a horrible sound of the motor vibrating against the drive current.

I bit the bullet and adjusted my EQ8 DEC backlash today. A bit fiddly but I think I've reduced the backlash. We'll see tonight.
