EOI - Orion Optics VX12L 1/10PV .99 Strehl

Hi all.

I am considering selling my recently purchased 12" F/5.3 Orion Optics (UK) high performance newtonian telescope.

To say this telescope has high end optics would be an understatement. I bought the top-of-the line 'Ultra Grade' mirrors in this unit, primarily for the purpose of planetary imaging. I was tired of playing the lottery with mass-produced, off the shelf scopes where optical quality is never assured. I bit the bullet and paid for the best there is.

The figures on the Zygo (632.8nm) report confirm the following:

Strehl = 0.991
PV Wavefront = 0.098
PV = 62.28
rms = 0.015
AstMag = 0.026

I would have bought this telescope alone on the strength of the Strehl and better than 1/10th wave optics the report guaranteed.

The scope is very nicely made and features a smooth focuser and 9-point mirror cell.

All the other details can be found here:

http://www.orionoptics.co.uk/VX/vx12-12l.html

I have also fitted a nice 300mm long Losmandy Dovetail.

This unit cost me more than $2000 to ship from the UK, since you can't buy these here in Oz. All up, the whole thing cost me a bit over $5000 landed, door to door.

It's only around 5 or 6 months old and is in excellent condition. But I've decided to go in a different direction. I'm probably not a Newtonian guy deep down....

Anyone looking for a telescope which performs beautifully on planets but can also accept lower power, wider field eyepieces for nights of DSO viewing/imaging....with guaranteed premium, top-quality optics would be interested in this one.

I'll include the original paperwork including the Zygo optical report. You know EXACTLY what you are getting. Which is the peace of mind I was looking for when I bought it.

Looking for $3500, which is a bargain for this large aperture, premium scope. I still have the original box and inserts for shipping, which would be at your expense and you would need to organise. Pick up is also OK.

Get in touch via PM if you wish to discuss.

Am willing to be negotiable on price. Open to reasonable offers. All via PM please.

Can email photos and copy of Zygo interferometry report to those who are genuinely interested.

This is a great top-end scope of decent aperture which is only a few months old. It needs to go to a good home

Here's the Zygo report for the 12" f/5.3 mirror in this scope.

I'll post a few pics of the sccope on my G11 shortly.

This pic, and the images to come later are iPhone photos. Let me know if you would like them in better quality

And the scope, on the Losmandy G11. It gives you an idea of the size of the scope.

Please get in touch via PM if you have any questions, or would like to make an offer or discuss a possible trade.

I am open to suggestions/offers

Hi guys.

Had a few inquiries and a number of offers.

At this stage I am looking either for a straight-up sale or a trade/ trade + cash.

In terms of a trade, I'd most prefer for another scope.

I'm happy to consider an SCT (10" and above) a Mak-Cass, Mak-Newt, Dall-Kirkham.

I'd also consider a quality refractor.

I'm happy to add cash at my end too, if you've got something I might be interested in.

Price Drop

Price drop.

I'll take another $200 off the price of this because I have a few other projects I'd like to get to and this needs a good home.

Now asking $3300. Ships in original box/packaging. Or pick-up welcome.

Thanks
