After few years of break I finally got some time to get back to astrophotograpy. First step would be to build a replacement for my dual-axis motorised hand controller for EQ5 to emulate LX200.
I have seen people doing it with microcontrollers (see for example
here) or with Shoestring GPUSB. I was thinking of taking a step further and making a controller using Beaglebone Black (BBB). The main advantage of BBB over Rasberry Pi is that it has a PRU which is a separate processor for realtime tasks. I would not trust a Raspberry Pi to get the timings correct.
The advantage is that the mount will easily be accessible via WiFi and it could, for example, do autoguiding, DSLR control and GOTO (like PiAstroHub).
Any thoughts about this approach? Or is a dedicated microcontroller and a separate control device (via USB) a way to go?
