Thanks mate ... didnt expect to see this thread appear in the forums... what a a nice idea
The only astro gear I have is a set of eyeballs at the moment .. I plan to purchase the astronomy 2005 book to get me started and hopefully a telescope down the track.
Looks like the dragons need all the help they can get at the moment.

We try to say G'day to all new members. If you need any info about scopes before you buy one, just ask the members in here and we will help as much as possible. Eyeballs are fine for now and reading this site will be your telescope for now.
Dragons are doing terrible! As of the Tigers win tonight Dragons are the only team not to win a game so far
Anyway, feel welcome and ask all the questions you want to.

I second what our gong'er above says, try and get along to a local meeting to look through some of the member scopes. If you're planning on getting a scope, it will give you some great insight into what you can expect to see through scopes of various aperture, eyepieces etc.
If you're not going to purchase a scope, it's a great way of seeing the heavens and talking astronomy with like-minded people!
 to the forums!

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the welcome. I've been lurking here for a while now and thought I'd better do the decent thing and join up.
I'm just getting back into observing with my trusty old C8 and rekindled enthusiasm after some time away from the hobby.
Sorry if my username is a bit awkward, but ever since I came across the word in an old dictionary of astronomy I've been dying to use it for something.
Regards,
Chris

Welcome Precog, syzygy and astro_nutt!
How did you hear about us?
Don't forget there's the "show us a pic of yourself" thread, as well as the "show us a pic of your rig" threads if you'd like to post some pics in, it's a good way to tell us a bit about yourself and your astronomy background..
We hope you enjoy your time here, we're a growing little family and there's lots of great people with great advice, ranging in experience from newbies to very experienced amateur astronomers. So there's bound to be something for you.
Don't be afraid to post and take part in the discussions!

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the welcome.
This site has been in my favorites folder for quite some time now, so I can't remember how it got there, sorry. Do you have a virus out there adding it to peoples computers?
Regards,
Chris

Chris, you got him! Iceman is Dr. Evil. He has no interest in astronomy at all. All he wants to do is take over the world by gaining control of every computer on the net. I've pretended to join this little cult of his only to bring him down from the inside. Shhh

Get real Steve. Geez you can talk some crap! Mike is an Alien, not a cult leader. And he is after several planets, not just this one.
Gets your facts right next time.
