Cheapest tracking EQ mount?

Now that the planets are coming back I'm considering a basic, cheap tracking EQ mount for use with my C6. I would be buying used, and I already have an LXD-75 tripod that will serve as an upgrade to any flimsy aluminium legs that might come with a cheaper mount.

Summary of requirements:
  1. Inexpensive
  2. Sturdy enough for planetary observing with C6 SCT
  3. RA tracking (GOTO not required)
  4. Fits Vixen/EQ5 style tripod
Would I get away with an EQ3? Does it have the same 'Vixen' fitting as the EQ5/CG5 mounts?

Suggestions welcome.

EQ3 would be the minimum , and yes they have the 60mm stub like the Meade LXD 55/75's , Vixens and SW'w up to HEQ5 size , that EQ5 in the classifieds would have been perfect . just add duel axis drives , this would be perfect for the C6 .
Brian.

Morton, why EQ?

A C6 is super light, even a Star Adventurer should track OK with one onboard (actually, the payload of the SA and EQ3 are very similar). What's most important is the damping characteristics of the tripod. Cutting the corners off a yoga mat and sticking them under the tripod feet should do the trick.

Interesting idea. Thanks, Dunk!
