NGC 2070 - work in progress

Hi all,

I have decided to have another go at the Tarantula, and hoping to improve on my last year's attempt. Also, decided against using last year's data due to inferior quality.

So far have collected about 9 hours of Halpha, and fingers crossed will add more plus turn it into a tri-colour narrowband image in the coming weeks/months.

This is what I have gotten so far: http://www.astrobin.com/full/227959/0/

And full res: http://cdn.astrobin.com/images/thumb..._watermark.jpg

Only bias and flats applied and a stretch (no noise reduction nor sharpening). Data collected in the last few nights from Paddy in Brissie.

Thank you for looking

Suavi

Looking good Suavi. It's been good to have a few clear nights for a change.

That's a lovely field of view. Nicely composed too. I had to make a decision about which composition I wanted and I decided to go for one which included the SN1987A section. I like your composition better but I just don't have that size field of view. I am looking forward to the development of your image.

Thank you Peter. Yes, we do not very often get a few totally clear nights in a row. Had to make the most of it

Thanks Paul. I like rich crisp detail in your image.
I was taking full advantage of a few clear nights we just had, so my data has been collected between 32 and 47 degrees above the horizon so not quite ideal, and high humidity did not help neither. Have some filed rotation in the data too...so I need to be more careful with polar alignment...

Ah yes, a good'ol H-alpha Tarantula region shot seldom disappoints Suavi, nicely processed

Jealous of your clear sky run though but happy for you

I will ask weather gods to provide some rain during the day and clear cool nights for all of us across Australia

I am glad you like my BFAS* processing!

* BF: apply Bias and Flats, A: star Align and S: Stretch...simplicity can help in revealing the essence of things

Thank you Greg, Mike and Trish and Lucas for your very kind feedback - I will keep going with this project and hopefully the final product will be an improvement over my last year's version.
