International postage

I was hoping to send a couple of books overseas.
The postage costs are very high - $40 to Netherlands and $46 to Israel!!
Are there any cost effective alternatives to Aussie Post?

Have you tried TNT - you may need an account to get their good rates.

So I'm probably no help - but its ridiculous that I can buy books online (at any price) from the UK and postage is free - paperbacks through to heavy volumes.
. . . and the books are cheap too !

I can get almost all my gadgets from China, Singapore, HongKong etc free too - all delivered by AusPost
But using AusPost the otherway it costs a fortune.

I suppose we have to subsidise China somehow.

We've been down this path before Steve.

Auspost is stuck with delivered truck loads of goods from China for no payment. Jeepers, you can't begrudge them earning a quid on things that originate here surely?!

Quite true, Chinese businesses send stuff through the Government owned China Post at no cost to them but then Aust Post gets the task of providing a free delivery service for all the carp that comes out of China.

No wonder they are going broke.

I found it was cheaper to buy another copy of the book through Amazon and get it sent direct to the OS receiver.

Guys,
Thanks.
Unfortunately the reason I was sending the book(s) was because they are not readily available on Amazon etc.
Seems like there are very few options to the SFR...

FWIW ..... I sent a Focuser to Starlight Instruments on the 21st of this month at 14.27pm .... it was on a plane at 22.33pm heading for Los Angeles that evening....
It arrived there at 21.46 on the same date ... 21st ( they are behind us in time )...

It departed Los Angeles on the 22nd at 20.21pm...arrived in Dayton Ohio USA at 12.11am the next day...and was delivered to Columbia City ( where Starlight Instruments are ) and delivered and signed for at 13.40 that afternoon.....

Cut story short ..... Sent Wednesday 21st .... delivered and signed for on the 23rd ...... just 2 days from Aspley ..North of Brisbane to Columbia City Dayton Ohio USA.

Who did I send it with ..... Pack and Send ... who handed it over to DHL at Brisbane International Airport...it was put on a ' pallet ' and shipped out.

Now THAT is what I call awesome service ....I was not prepared to send it thru' Aust' Post considering my recent debacle of losing a parcel of mine within Australia.

Col.....

I didn't waste my time with Aust' Post ( they are expensive enough anyway ).... no confidence in them.
I was prepared to pay for the service Pack and Send offered.... AND PEACE OF MIND ...BTW ... that parcel was fully insured for loss or damage.

Pack and Send / DHL are leaps and bounds ahead of anything Aust' Post could offer.

They can't even send Express Parcel / Satchel items over night here in Aussie....Lewis can vouch for that.

Go Pack and Send / DHL ......

Col.....

Guys,
thanks for the input, but not very constructive for the non- employed, or retired members who want to send smaller items overseas.
