Colourful stardust

I was like a kid in a sweetie shop over the October Labour Day weekend, and took short-ish exposures (1-2hrs) of several objects over two perfect evenings. I need to be more discerning, but I've not had many dark sky trips with my photo gear . This one was my favourite I think.

NGC6559 and friends, 20 x 5minutes, EOS 60D, 150mm f/5 Newtonian and usual other gear.

A larger version is here.

A larger version of the wider view.

Excellent work Andy, very tidy results there. No need to be more discerning, sometimes just taking a few modest exposure shots over a couple of nights, to make a trip worthwhile, is a good choice ... and the obvious joy felt during their acquisition under clear dark skies makes'em look eeeeven better. It's a great feeling huh?

So you did NGC 300, 253 and this, how many more from the trip are we waiting to see?

Mike

Subtle, gentle, lots to see. We liked the composition of the wider view particularly.

Best,
Mike and Trish

Nice ones Andy, ha yes I too know the feeling, especially with today's sensitive cameras. When I first got my Sony I was doing 5 targets a night. Now I'm more patient, down to 2

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the comments My wife sees a can-can dancer on the right, with the skirts being the red banner of nebulosity and the petticoats in blue, head and arms being stars around the dark 'S' - I said that was good imagination, I can just about see it!

The feeling of being out under a transparent sky, no clouds anywhere, low humidity, not even too cold and the gear is working smoothly - one to treasure . Had the 16" next door for visual touring (it's fun when NGC253 doesn't fit in the medium power field), and a smouldering campfire to sit by at the end of the session
I've got a 2-hour Helix to come, but I've just seen Paul's, which is a little staggering! To say mine's a bit grainy by comparison is a huge understatement

Yeah, I guess it's the way - Now I've had the imaging scope for a year, I've had a crack at quite a few of the 'main' objects, and I'll probably take more time over whatever I do this year.
