Why do we give all the gambling rights to guys like Tat's??? They make all the profit and nothing gets back to the unfortunate punters.

At least in the UK they have the NL which dispenses grants back to the community? Wouldn't that be a better idea???

Our Pollies, are too short term and as a result we attack People in politics that can only think of themselves and whats is good for them. Most of our lottos were government owned and did just as you said. however most are now sold off for short term funding and post politic's job applications.

I believe Lottery West (WA Lotto) has grants that channels funds back into the community. Surprised that Tatts Lotto doesn't do the same.

LotteryWest does indeed put a HUGE amount of money back into the community. Everyone is encouraged to apply for funds, as little as $5000 or so, it doesn't have to be big, and they help you with the application (tell you what you need to change to make it acceptable). Sometimes your organisation is required to match the amount, i.e. they pay 50% of what you want, and they expect some advertising for them, like a sticker or sign saying LotteryWest funded, but most people are happy to do that.

I was surprised to find this doesn't happen in other states. Don't know why.
