What on earth is going on?

I have converted my Canon 1100Ds MOV files to AVI files four times using 4 different conversion tools including Canon's own Zoom Browser Ex, and neither Autostakkert nor Registax will accept them.

Hi Raymo...

Converting video from one file type to another a great big
bulging can of worms.

The AVI file extension does not mean much...
AVI can use many types of file compression within the same AVI "Container"
and you have to use the right combination of compressors and their
myriad internal options before autostakkert will take them in.

I find that converting to AVI using the "MP4" standard, and removing the sound gives me the best chance of success.
a free converter called "freemake" does this with ease.

HOWEVER.......

any compression/conversions you do will result in a loss of data...

you really should try PIPP.....it sucks in the canon movs with no issues,
crops and centres for planetary, and does quality analysis on the fly,
chucking the bad frames. This means that autostakkert has less work to do when reading the resultant AVI.

Hi Sharkbite, I downloaded PIPP, but being 80ish and not that comp
literate, I couldn't make head nor tail of it; anyway all of a sudden
Registax started accepting my videos that I converted in Canon's Zoom Browser like it always used to, although the first one it accepted was
all messed up. So, for now, I'm up and running again.
Thanks for your help.
