First LRGB Image - M78

After finally getting a clear new moon and social calendar conjunction, I managed to get some imaging done in country Victoria.

Seems amazing that I've had this camera for several months, but after many attempts at NB, this is my first LRGB image, and my first attempt at M78

12x10min Lum, 40R 40 G 50B - as usual - it needs more data!

That is a beauty. More exposure would make the colours more solid but its looking very nice. Tell me is that a natural ridge curving in the Ha areas to the left of the image or is it an artifact? It seems like an exact curve.

Hi Greg and Jo, thanks so much for the positive comments.
Artifact? hmmm, could be but I don't think so, probably just a sharpish piece of Barnard's loop - it's on this photogaphers' version as well.
Happy to post a Lum sub if it helps for forensics!

Screenshot of the LRGB substacks - AlSam reckons it's a reflection from a filter? Thoughts?

even with that arc...which is not the same arc as in the Japanese guys photo, yours looks like an out of field star ring to me..? Like your colours and even though I haven't imaged this area before, given the complex subtleties preset I recon it would be a hard nut to process so extra good work there

Hard to say Andy. There is a curved section of Ha. I did a mosaic of the area a while ago. Mine is lower res so it doesn't show up as much but there is a curved section there. Perhaps not as definite as yours though.

I occassionally see curved rings like that on my CDK from out of shot bright star reflections. I don't see them so much now I have flocked my scope. The clue is the perfect curve.

Thanks Mike - really appreciate your coments. It was a bit tricky but overall I 'm happy with the result.

Sigh, just when you feel like you're getting somewhere with AP a new glitch shows up - this one's a bit wierd too - might try getting som Ha data from home later this week and see if that sharp arc goes away.
