FWIW, Skippy Sky notifies that the browser cache must be manually cleared in Firefox - otherwise data will not be the latest available. I had to do the same with Chrome. Apparently a recent update to something changed the cache refresh process and stopped it in some browsers??

The Bureau of Meterology website is my first call. The satellite photos though tend to be a little low contrast so sometimes you get cloud that is not cumulus type that does not show up well in their images. So it appears that it should be clear yet it will be cloudy outside. But that is not that often. So the Skippy site or a local weather site which sometimes have very good satellite photos that show all cloud well is handy.

The radar is very useful as well to predict showers/storms that may be coming. I use that sometimes at my dark site where storms often go around my site and I can see distant lightning etc but its clear overhead. Its good to know what's happening and which way the weather is travelling and where the showers/storms are.

Here's a slightly wacky thing I do occasionally:

Get ISS fly-over data for your location from HA: http://www.heavens-above.com/

If there is a suitable ISS pass, there are 3 alternating-view cameras mounted outside the ISS - and you can look down at your local cloud conditions.

http://www.ustream.tv/channel/iss-hdev-payload

Can be really helpful & is in real-time - you can see cloud cover a few hours before your hoped-for astro set up!

Meant to add (to above) that, to see all ISS passes (not just visible, night-time ones), you need to click in 'all passes' in HA.
