Need some info: First visit to Uluru

Hi Guys,

I'll be visiting Uluru in the Easter 2016 break and will be doing some night sky photography. The national park closes after sunset.

Are there enough spots around the area where I can freely park the car in the night and click pictures.

Also is there anything I need to take care of as its my first trip to the outback.

welcome to the boards

i hope you are not going over the easter weekend, if you can time it around a new moon you will not regret it. When i went there a few years back the sky was simply amazing
i went for drives at night and just found spots to pull over and take a few shots. there is essentially 1 road and few people driving at night so you should be good to pull over and set up anywhere, if you want fantastically framed shots you may need to walk for a bit. some others may be able to point you to their super secret locations.

Hi Prateek,

I note Easter Sunday 2016 falls on March 27th.

Just as well, as you will then avoid the "Field of Light" art installation
which will apparently be on at Uluru from 1 April 2016 until 31 March 2017.

New Moon falls on March 9th 2016 and April 1st will be the following last quarter.

you can walk out from the yulara camp ground and climb a dune or go to the Uluru lookout. From there you can point your camera at Uluru which is southeast of Yulara campground.

As others have said, go at new moon if possible.

Hi Gary

Thank you so much for that tip as I was looking at doing my first trip out there around March/April. I will now make sure that it's March. Was always going to be around new moon time .
I heard that Autumn was the best time to go, weather wise.
