Moon last night

Moon image at Mt Coot-tha Public Field Night. Cropped to about 80%, resized and trimmed to 1600 x 1200, resized for the web, minimal processing in PS CS2.

Good night with the public for the International Sidewalk Astronomy Night.

Tony

Nice shot, incidentally last night was a very good SE libration of the Moon, you can see a lot more of Mare Australis in that shot than is usually visible.

We were up on Mt Coot-tha Lookout where we have had our Public Field Nights for the last 10 years? We have been doing it since I was President of BAS... I think we started it in 1998

This was basically the scopes second light since we bought it at Easter. Vixen 102M f10, EQ 5, Canon 400D, too tired to look for the exif data for the exposure, but I think it was 200 iso, about 1/125 sec. Will check that in the next few days.

Thanks for the heads up... I was just happy to let a few folks have a good look at the Moon, but I spent most of my time on Saturn... that blew most everyone away at about 90x.

Very good night, all in all.

The Brisbane Astronomical Society does its PFN every month... if the weather is kind to us.

Info is up on the BAS site www.bas.asn.au, next one will be around 4 weeks away. We hold them on the Saturday nearest the First Quarter Moon, and we don't advertise because if several hundred people ascend the mountain (like last night) and there are only a couple of scopes... well you do the maths.
Next one is on the 10th May, weather permitting.

I fell asleep with the kids a few nights ago so I didn't grab the image I wanted on the 14th. This one I got last night.

I can't believe how much I am using the new scope... I usually only have time and energy to do astronomy at Astrofest . I got the modded Toucam from Joe a few days ago, now I just have to learn how to align the scope to use it .

Haven't actually used the toucam yet as I have only just got a laptop and I'm still waiting for the upgrade from vista to xp discs . The images are from our 400d.
