AP175 and AP RHA for auction at Astromart

http://www.astromart.com/auctions/de...ction_id=18290 RHA

http://www.astromart.com/auctions/de...ction_id=18305 AP175

A pretty rare sight to see 2 of AP's finest up for grabs.

Greg.

Interesting times....last time I looked at the bidding....

.... the (landed in Oz price) for the 7 inch Starfire was around $46K and RHA around $37k Pacific pesos.

Can someone explain to me again why a low $A is good???

So if we were back to parity Peter, you'd be all over it.

I'm sorry. I'm puzzled by this response.

I already have two sublime AP refractors, and a RHA, so I am not sure why I'd want two RHA's (really big binoculars maybe?? )

Secondly, how is paying 30% or more for a product, in a country that manufactures almost nothing, going to help your average punter, who may not need a sublime optics, but probably will need a car/fridge/microwave/TV/PC....etc. etc.

I was offered the chance to buy a new AP 175 a when they were released for US$19000 when the dollar was near parity. Couldn't quite manage it financially so had to decline. I knew I'd regret it pretty much forever - and I do.

Hi Graeme, I know it's none of my business, but from your footnote I see that you have some very nice equipment that many/most on these forums can only dream of

Ouch. That was my reasoning as well when offered the RHA. A stretch financially but I would regret it if I didn't move heaven and earth.

I did see a 175 sell on Astromart a few months ago. I forget the selling price, I think it was more like $20K. This one is getting a premium because of the cache of having been Roland's personal scope so the think would be its better than the production models. Perhaps it is perhaps it isn't as it was a prototype. Only Roland would know. He may have made some adjustments to the lens for example on later production models. Who knows.

Greg.

I suspect Roland has put the same degree of care and attention to detail in to pretty much every scope that bears his name.

The Honders ended up selling at auction for $US 28k.....landed in Oz that's about $A47k with GST and shipping.

Toss in an Atlas focuser and you are well over $A 50k...
