ASCOM Connection Error - help?

I am attempting to get my NEQ6 connected to my WIN8 laptop (Stellarium app), and have the following steps complete:

Shoestring EQDirect (USB to RS232) connected. Driver loaded and identified as COM6 ( this was checked in Device Manager to confirm).
ASCOM platform on the laptop, also have EQMOD and EQtools, etc.
It is Registered, and I have run the diagnostics and everything is fine.
Went through the setup routine that I found online.

Setup the COM6 port on the parameter page, and entered the GPS coordinates.
Mount is connected and power is on.
When I press the OK button on the parameters page the EDMOD page pops up with this message:

Connection Error: Invalid Parameter

I went back and checked it again. I then followed an online suggestion to delete the ini file and resave it, which I did. Still the same response. In fact I can't get out of that damn page and had to reboot the laptop to get away from it.

Does anyone have any suggestions to fix this problem?

Perhaps some screenshots Glen so people can see more to try and help?

Do you have PHD2 or some other astro application (other than Stellarium) to host EQMOD that could be tried?
