ngc 6188 and running chicken

g'day,

despite being super tired and lack of clear skies for some time I felt I had to get out last Monday night while it was clear, thankfully I did as it hasn't been good. only got to process them on the w'end.

I probably should have chosen a different target as the running chicken hit some trees about an hour and a half in. I was playing around in the background with my new A7s so my mind was in a few places at once.
I then moved over to the fighting dragons, I've been waiting all year to have a crack. very minimalistic data at this stage as I needed to get to bed but in this weather beggars can't be choosers I guess.

Bicolour Ha/OIII - canon 600d.

I initially wanted to shoot a galaxy in osc but my filters seemed to be fairly stuck in their filter draws

I've ordered more draws (and a SII filter) so I won't have that issue in the future. all fairly experimental for me trying nb with a dslr but still learning a lot (I foresee RegiStar in my very near future - there is only so much PS warp tool one can put themselves through - and ngc still needs better alignment).

enough rambling, nothing special just bored with this terrible weather.

Nice. I want to have a decent go at both of these once we get some clear and dark sky.

I've had a quick go at the running chicken but with about 4 x 5 min subs can only make out a hint of the brightest nebulosity and some bok globules with a lot of stretching of the data. I'm wondering if my unmodified camera is filtering out too much of the H-alpha.

Nice ones Russ. Fighting dragons, is that what they call that. Easier to remember than NGC6188 I suppose! Is the 600D modified? Nevermind, I just read your sig lol.

Hi Marty,

Thanks mate - yes that was my last crack at the running chicken, I tried rgb earlier in the season but it was fairly ruined by wind. its now passing that tree...

Justin Tillbrook has done these with an unmodified DSLR

Thanks Kev yep fighting dragons, running chickens - sounds like a bad dream!
Of course they are side on in my image and are usually easier to spot 90 degrees around.

600d is modified, 550d is not (yet), A7s is not.

Well Justin's work shows it can be done. I just need more data. I have looked through the link you've provided and tried it out, but I can't get a running chicken out of my data except for a hint with pixinsight and lots of curve stretching.
