The latest image from Clayton Bay observatories. Only 8 hours of data but I found it was pretty clean.
This is a better rendition that my previous effort of about 5 years ago with the 8" RC.
This galaxy is a very intriguing looking one. The dust lanes, not only across the central plain but the thinner vertical traces are quite interesting to view. Around the central area it looks like those dust lanes are pointing up and away. As though they are being drawn into the central black hole or blown out and away. The star forming regions can be seen too.
Magnificent and extraordinary. I see what you mean about the very conspicuous thin dust lanes on the "underside" of the galaxy, some of which are like spokes poking out, and some look like looping arcs.
I wonder if they're caused by the same mechanism as the ones in NGC 253, each of which is thought to be due to multiple supernovas causing a "galactic fountain" of material being ejected out of the galaxy.
The bright blue star top right helps make for a beautiful image.
This has to be one of the best images of 4945 I have seen. I don't remember seeing such fantastic detail of the dust clouds rising before.
Brilliant work Paul!!

Must admit this really appeals Paul. It doesn't smack you in the face with lots of overdone makeup, but the more you look at it, makes you realise you're seeing new territory not usually seen.
Kudos and congrats for getting your new rig working so well - definitely making an impression on the astro-community and lifting the bar higher.
