registax for dslr files

Hi folks
I need software for stacking etc. Only problem is imageplus and all those other good programs are expensive. Now I'm not a tight arse; ok I am; but can you stack large dslr images using the free program registax, or is there some other software floating around the internet?

Regards Carl

Hi Carl.

Registax can be used, but in my opinion, it doesn't handle the large files very well and you'll need a fast computer so it doesn't chug itself to death.

A lot of people use IRIS, which is *FREE*! But very complex and hard to use

I agree with Mike, RegiStax will work but is very resource intensive with the large files. And I've never got the hang of IRIS but others have. IRIS certainly seems to be the free product of choice.

I didn't end up finding a satisfactory solution on the "free market" so ended up buying RegiStar after several months of struggling with RegiStax, IRIS, etc.

Roger.

Hi Carl,

I have only been doing DSO imaging for a short while and use Registax 3 to stack my images taken with Canon 20Da, with no problem.
