Found this tutorial for drift aligning using K3CCD tools {from the Yahoo digital group file section}. Don't know whether it would complicate things further but worth as go

This is the same process I use Stuart, though I only found this pdf a couple of weeks ago I developed the same process myself. The only thing I would add to the PDF is to make sure either your camera is orientated correctly in RA and DEC as close as possible or use the "measure Camera angle" feature to take into account the amount of misalignement in the drifting (and autoguiding process)

Good on ya, Paul!!! Your going to write one! I was going to suggest (one day soon when I have a bit of spare time! ) that I'll write one in collaboration with you... you provide the smarts and I'll provide the grunt to write it sort of... just cause I reckon learning that at Lostock was just the bees knees!

Al.

Thanks Al. I don't know why it's not more popular. It's not that hard to learn, hell I taught myself , and as you know it does a great job.

Actually that won't do me any good I start holidays next week so if I get a clear night or two I'll take some screenshots and start putting it together.

Dont know if you have seen this program its called startag Quote from web site

Draggable, rotatable crosshairs that will pop up on top of everything on your desktop. Excellent aid for performing a drift alignment if you have a CCD camera capable of placing a live image on your computer desktop

Video demo here and its only $15 US

Software/Webcam polar alignment

I have been experimenting with this tool:http://wcs.ruthner.at/index-en.htmAt first it failed on my PC - however I tracked this down to problems associated with the .Net framework. Now it works well. Give it a go...
