Exclamation ISS flare!!!

Have just come inside from watching the ISS/STS-115 flyover - awesome, heavens above under-estimated its brightness....
a predicted magnitude of 0.8 was an observed magnitude of at least -2 - and it flared, for about 10-15 seconds (at approx 20 deg alt in the WSW) it did an iridium like flare to I think -10 or so - REALLY bright
I've seen -8 Iridiums - and this left them for dead by a large margin.... maybe the new solar panels are at the right angle - I wish the camera was trained to the flare area!!! I had it trained to catch them passing between the pointers and crux.....

(This was all from Newcastle)

On again tomorrow night.

Observed the ISS/STS pass last night from Newcastle and was suitably impressed, wasn't expecting to see them that close together.
Had the whole family out tonight at home and was rewarded by that amazing flare!
Wonder what surprises tommorrows pass will bring?

Hi Guys,

I watched the ISS and shuttle pass tonight as well. No flare here though , but still it was impressively bright and good to see the shuttle tagging along.

I just finished dinner and suggested Lyn and her daughter Jarita come outside to watch it... then bumped into the next door neighbours outside so we had a little ISS party out the front! All good! I think they were all quite impressed with the view!

I just need to get myself better organised to view it in detail and/or image it.

Al.
