Southern Spiral Galaxy NGC2997 REPRO 15 hours

Attachment 180140I have always thought this galaxy was one of the nicest in the sky.

This is about 10 hours of luminance and 4.5 hours colour. I took lots of colour but rejected most of it but still had 4.5 hours left!

Taken over a year. I'd like to acquire more data so if no go this year there is always next year! The advantage of using the same setup over a long period of time.

CDK17, SX Trius 694, PME.

Man I have to get my CDK17 to my dark site as the contrast is so much better from the dark site luminance.

The luminance certainly looks good Greg but the image is obviously suffering from lack of colour data. If you can't get any more colour data this year, have you considered using colour from your previous views of NGC 2997?

Cheers

Steve

Looking good Greg and I agree it is a rather photogenic galaxy

As Steve says, when you get time I am sure some extras data (old or new) will make it even better

Thanks Rick. As mentioned I need to add more colour data to bring it up. the Luminance is fine its the lack of colour.

Good idea Steve. I do have older data with colour. I'll see what I have in the kitty and repost it!

Hi, Greg,

You're showing the spiral structure very nicely, including some very faint outer extensions and detail in to very close to the core. Looking good.

Best,
Mike

Thanks Mike. The latest version shows the spiral even better. Its quite a bit larger than normally shown. The spiral arms are very extended. 30 hours no doubt would show up a really large disc with the spiral arms extending out like they do on NGC1566.

Greg.

Great looking galaxy photo Greg.

So sharp and very detailed.

Good luck with the colour. It's well worth pursuing.

Ross.

Thanks Ross.

I did find more colour that I already have and this is incorporated in the link as I posted the new image (which is the one you saw) at the same link.

But if I do get some nice clear skies I will add to it as I really like this galaxy.

I just tweaked the colour and brightness of the image a touch as it was bit too reddish. Same link.

Greg.
