Help with Astro Landscapes

Hi all

Newbie here

Have seen some fantastic pictures of landscapes with the milky way in the background and I would love to have a try to recreate these. I am a competent photographer and probably have the necessary gear so it is more about the technique.

I live in North Sydney and am hoping someone can help me on some beginners "dark sites" I presume I need to shoot when there is no moon and even as basic as to what direction to point the camera.

I have posted an attempt this weekend but this was taken on the edge of a hotel carpark so certainly not dark

Thanks in advance

Firstly, welcome to Ice In Space!
Best way to get relevant feedback/advice to queries is (where possible) to post your camera setup and what settings you used to achieve the result you've posted.
Once we know your starting point it's a lot easier to steer you in your desired direction.
