Centaurus A

Had my first autoguider out on the field for the first time so i decided to try out 10min exposures as a test. The contrast is a little off because of the rising moon.

3x10mins ISO1600 with the ED100

Interesting fact, a Scottish fellow discovered it from Parramatta, NSW in 1826. He would have a heart attack if he saw what the skies there look like now.

Nice one Ed, lots of detail and surprisingly low noise, especially given the temperature

Astonishingly good!!!
Are you using a LP filter to get 10 minute subs without skyglow?
Where are you imaging from?
You should be very happy with a result like that from 30 minutes.
WOW. Like I said before...Astonishing!
Bruce.

Cheers Dunk. I would have gone for more subs if it wasnt nearly 4am with a rising moon.

Thanks Bruce, No filters just at a dark site (Wiruna).

If moonrise was at 4 a.m. it must have been a crescent and shouldn't affect imaging massively. How come you didn't keep going?

Even though the moon was a small crescent, i could see the histogram shifting to the right so i stopped and started doing darks.

Plus astronomical twilight is around 4:30 so i thought id call it a night. Otherwise i would have been up for nearly 24 hours straight

Wow Ed, that is fantastic mate, esp for only 30 mins of data! Looking forward to seeing what you can do with more time on the object!
