I had an opportunity for only one night to try imaging with a new Sony A6000 24mp DSLR it is stock standard and seems to work well for Astro, one night was not enough clouds moved in and put an end to imaging after only 20 subs.

20 x 3min unguided subs at iso2000 with darks and bias

That's great Wayne! I just got the little brother A5100 last week, it has the same sensor and processor as the A6000 so am glad to hear it's working good for you for astro.

Did you take separate darks or use the in camera dark frame subtraction? I was hoping to take separate darks with my camera but for the life of me can't figure out how to turn off the automatic dark frame subtraction. Hope it can be done.

Can't wait to try mine out on the stars, just waiting for some adaptors to arrive in the mail.

Cheers
Jo

Great shot! I haven't seen many results from a derotated alt-az setup - this looks excellent.

Thanks Cam, Michael and Jo

Yes Jo I used separate darks 50 of them, keep looking in the setup menu on the A5100 somewhere there you will find the in camera dark control on the A6000 menu it is called long exposure noise reduction.

thanks Wayne.

Great shot Wayne. Since the deep skies forum, got separated between beginners and I'm missing on all the good stuff.
