Newt first lights

Hi folks, been collecting some data on these two over Xmas.
The M42 I used a Canon 5D mark II unmodded with coma corrector and Vixen RS200 8" f4 scope. Five minute subs with darks and flats.
Thor's Helmet same camera and scope- ten minute subs with calibration.
I have the colour version of M42/43 but it really shows the stretching I did to get the dust -even at four hours worth.
Camera temperature was quite hot as well -I think the 5D runs much hotter than my 1000D according the EXIF on APT- almost ten degrees hotter. Anyone else noticed that?
Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks for looking.

Hi Graham - love the Helmet - that's a fine Thor! M42 is showing great depth but the noise is a killer. How many subs for both and what ISO was used?
Cheers,
Bruce.

First lights

Hi Bruce I agree, I did 3hr 45 min of five minute subs then another's 15 min 45 sec of 15 and 45 sec subs. Unfortunately I can't go further than five min subs in my eastern sky due to light pollution. It was ISO 800.
I really cranked the digital development and the gama in star tools mainly to see how much dust I had. After Paul Hease's dusty master piece I think my mind I am looking for something different now. Problem is I don't have perfect skies or a remote observatory!! Took me three weeks to get four hours!!
You can he see the difference in Thor as that was in my north then western sky, towards the mountain so away from the city. So hence 10 minute subs.
Cheers
Graham

Light pollution - tell me about it. I had pretty decent skies here in the Blue Mountains until a few months ago, along with the highway upgrade came that horrid orange street lighting. I was getting around 8 minutes before the sky-glow became a problem and now it is an issue for anything beyond about 3 minutes. Looks like its time to fork out for a decent LP filter.
