The Milky Way in Ha

Its been a while since I posted an image.

This is the Ha component of a 6 panel Milky Way mosaic:

http://upload.pbase.com/gregbradley/...57074/original

It looks a bit like some of the storm cells we've had in Sydney during the last month.

Greg.

Fabulous Milky Way image Greg, the large scale loops and bubbles are very prominent in Ha. I've just got myself a Ha filter, freshly installed in the QSI filter wheel, so thanks very much for the inspiration! (now waiting for the obligatory clouds to clear...)

Excellent work Greg, you've taken a few MW panoramas over recent years with different gear and in different ways, you must know her very well now huh?

Great stuff

That looks great Greg - really has a space / space art feeling to it with a heap of detail.

Also reminds me of some of the Technical Pan images from the 80's.

Hello Greg,

This is a very well done image, nice clear data, with interesting contrasts. It's in fact a great reference image for us all. Thanks.

Thanks Rolf. I have the LRGB for each panel as well just waiting for the marathon processing effort!

Cheers Marc. Yes that Pentax 75mm is very sharp. I saw an image using this lens on the net and immediately bought one off ebay. Some of these Pentax 67 lenses are very good. The 55 is OK, the 165/2.8 is fantastic but a bit long for this type of shot.

Thanks Ian. Now the trick will be to keep that detail in the HaLRGB image.

Are you going to add RGB?
Yes I have LRGB ready to go.

I planned a DSLR marathon this year but alas did not go to my dark site. Definitely next year I want to do more DSLR Milky Way mega images.

Cheers Slawomir. Your QSI690 would be handy for this sort of shot but it would need a wider lens.

Thanks John. I know what you mean. It looks quite different in Ha and you see loops and objects galore. The Milky Way sure has a lot of stuff in it.

Cheers Fred. Ha is a great way to view objects and brings out a different view for sure.

Cheers Jo. I have been fascinated with MW images since the very beginning of my doing astrophotography. I think I'll add more panels next Milky Way season to give more room around it.

Its quite cheap, just a lens like that (there are lots of good lenses in the 50mm focal length range) and an adapter.

Thanks Steve, I am glad you will find it of use. It is handy to have a wide image to locate objects of interest.

I thought I had commented on this yesterday.

Very moody and really nice composition. I will be keeping an eye out for the final result.
